The 1955 team was coached by Eddie Allen and inducted into the Drexel University Sports Hall of Fame. The Dragons defeated the No. 5 University of Connecticut in the first round of the NCAA Women's National Invitation Tournament in 2012. In the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, Dreyfus scored the game-winner in overtime as the Dragons came from behind to defeat Hofstra and win their first NCAA tournament berth in program history. UNCW opened the CAA game against DREXel by beating them 75-63 in a rematch of last year's NCAA tournament on December 31, 2015.
In 1914 Drexel began awarding diplomas, starting with the Bachelor of Science in Engineering, and awarded certificates and diplomas for all fields of study. Anthony founded the DREXel Institute of Art, Science and Industry, based on the local school that later became the University of the Arts.
