Abington Senior High School Reviews

Abington schools have truly changed and stayed the same in some areas. First the change, I've called and written teachers concerning my child and have even informed the principal that I've been trying to contact several teachers and no one has contacted me yet. It's as if they do not care anymore. The teachers are also trying to be friends to the students instead of the teacher, until something happens. Secondly, the same. There is still alot of harrassing/picking amongst students and nothing is done about it or it's not handled in a timely until something happens between the students. Finally, I do not advocate fighting, however, I do believe that if someone is being taunted regularly or hit, the victim has a right to defend themselves. I understand training starts at home, however, I wish the school could have a class/progam to teach girls/boys the importance of loving/respecting themselves.

It was fine a few years ago for me at least. I do see how it is getting out of control with the students. Some of the teachers are good, but there are also some not so good ones. Yes there is a lot of teasing going on in there and teacher will most likely not do anything... big surprise there. Its still a good place to learn, if you can look past all that. I do think some of the teachers don't belong there. Since they aren't really teaching the students and usually let them do whatever they want in class.

School is not really good. Teachers are not in control of students who are breaking all the rules. All ID tags and evrything that school is providing to 'look good' are not helping at all. I think administration needs to spend more time on telling teachers how important silence during the class is. Or maybe how my son turned his homework in and did not recieve grade for it within month after. There are lots of issues that effect not just the schoiol it self, but even more - its students!

Overcrowding...And teachers 'presenteeism' doesnt count! And are kids being sent from neighboring towns here...it seems like it???

the school is ok. its not like it us to be. things seem to be getting out of hand with the students and most of the teachers really dont want to be there and it shows in the way they teach there class. most students are out of control and it is scaring the other students away. they need to tighen up there system a little bit and maybe the school can get better.

This school is amazing, it is very advance in everything for the different classrooms. After any type of problem is reveiwed they get on top of it right away, and although it might be tough, they won't back down and they will guild you through the whole time. They have the most decaited teachers, and staff, that I have ever seen. Trust me, this school is great.

I recently graduated from Abington after attending a Catholic elementary school. Now in college, I feel extraordinarily lucky to have attended Abington. I was prepared for college and the real world by great teachers who were dedicated and passionate about their jobs. Of course cliques and teasing existed, but there is no high school in the country that is free of these problems. Academically, Abington is embracing the 21st century. Classrooms are filled with the latest technology that teachers use to enhance teaching. Sports compete at the highest high school level in Pennsylvania, and extracurricular music/art programs are abundant. Abington rewards hard work and good discipline and provides many opportunities to make friends. Get your tax money's worth and send your child to this high school!

The quality of academic programs is great if you are in Honors or AP courses. Abington provides challenging courses in this aspect and really prepares you well for college. Extracurriular activities such as sports, music, and clubs are popular and offer a student a chance to really get involved in his/her school and community. Community service is a must and Mrs. Rodgers, the service learning coordinator is a wonderful source and teacher to get acquainted with. As for the level of parent involvement, I don't have any comments.

This used to be a great school system but it is in decline. It is overcrowded and teachers just don't seem to care anymore. The extracurricular activities still seem above par.

Both of my children have attended Abington Schools since Kindergarten. I am horrified at the amount of classifying and grouping that goes on in the student body, and the teasing and harassing which is not controlled. One of my children has borne the brunt of the teasing in the classroom, the other has learned that it happens every day and the teachers look the other way.

The opportunities for both academic and extracurricular challenges have enriched my daughter. Her individual strengths have been recognized and fostered in a myriad of ways at Abington. She has been well prepared for college. The depth of the academic offerings at Abington is noteworthy.

Abington Senior High School, while trying it's hardest to be 'the best' sometimes forgets how important that in addition to a good education, a good social system is needed. It is apparent that even the teachers set up their own 'classifications' and do not attend to the average students needs when it comes to teasing. My child, while not having these issues, has seen many a student tormented and forgotten- which in Abingtons ridiculously large, crowded, and overpopulated student body, is easily overlooked.
