Math Civics and Sciences Charter School Reviews

This is my children's first year at MCS, I am very impressed. Their school closed and I was very apprehensive about where to send them, but the small class sizes and the commitment of the Chief Administrator, Principal, and teaching staff, have been extraordinary, and have but all of my concerns to ease. I read the critcism about readiness for college, and I don't think too many Freshman are ready for college (I know I wans't), but the fact that 99% of MCS students go on to college is saying a whole lot. Parents the school can't do everything. MCS, Keep up the good work!

This school has its good and bad like most public schools. I commend the efforts of the teaching staff, however feel that some lack experience and skill that is necessarry for the children to truly thrive educationally. Too many times i am reteaching skills to my children that should have been taught in the classroom. Although tutoring is offered, it appears that the children are left to their own devices instead of reinforcing what skills that need attention. The cheif administrator should also be commended for her efforts, however she can also benefit from a little humbleness and allow for the teachers to be creative in their teaching styles to reach all of the children. Its her way or no way kind of attitude and no acceptance of responsiblility when things are wrong. Not a horrible school , however would recommend that you do research and stay on top of things.

I have a Granddaughter that graduated from this school in 2007, she was basically an A-B student. But when she attended college she needed a log of remedial help. She basically flunked out the first year. But seem to be doing better in her second year. I don't think she was prepared well.

I graduate from the school of the M.C.S.C.S I love the school and it's safe and the teachers and staff really care.

I think this is a good shool. The year has just begun and my child is doing great I would tell any and every one to enter their child in this school.

Children are not being given what they need to succeed. School [is] always on School Improvement. The children in this school always get A's & B's. The teacher turnover is so high. Former students who have gradutated and have entered college, can't even keep up.

My daughter has attended since 1st grade. The teachers are respectful and order is maintained throught the school at all times. The Academics are good for the lower grades from my experience with a variety of extra-curricular activities. My daughter will stay there until high school.

I think mcscs charter is a wonderful school, i attented the school for my 9th and half of my 10th grade year. I really enjoyed the time i was there and do plan on sending my daughter there in the future

I attend the Math Civics And Sciences Charter School. Mrs. Veronica Joyner does well and works well with children in the younger grades. This school wouldnt work well for children that are in the 8th grade and up (high school students). Many things that we do, middle school and elementary school children do the same activities. I would reccommend this school for younger children, for them it is a great school, but for high school children, we're kind of behind!

it is an ok school but it can a little more better

Math Civics Science Charter School is not allwhat it claims to be Ms Joyner the founder is only concerned with the kids that have some difficulty with school( not behavior but academics) I pulled my oldest out on the reccommendations of some of the teachers at that time because my son was excelling. She doesnt know how to help kids who excell just kids who needs extra help

The community inclusiveness of the school with the students and the teacher I believe creates a wonderful environment for students to feel secure, and build self-esteem and be not afraid to thrive.

Academic programs for the younger grades are great, but lacking for the high school age students. No real discipline that deters behaviors in the upper school. I would send my child here for K to 8, but not for high school. Better off with a private school.

This school is in a good location(centercity) close to public transportation. The teachers are great and provide good education and emotional support.

I am very pleased with the education my daughter is getting. She is always involved in something whether it's reading club or dance there is enough activities for her to do. The teachers are excellent, their communication with parents involving the student is remarkable, because anything they feel is important towards the growth of your child they will address it. Special thanks goes to Ms. Joyner and the faculty and staff. God Bless and keep up the good work!
