About Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The City of Brotherly Love held an important place in the development of the United States. Once the city even eclipsed New York as a city of significance in the United States. Of course, that was during Benjamin Franklin’s time. But, Philadelphia’s importance still is unquestioned. The American Revolution was born here and the United States Constitution was signed here. Plus, Philadelphia served briefly as the United States’ capital city. On a popular level, Philadelphia gave birth to row houses.
Philadelphia has its share of art museums. Big ones include the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Rodin Museum. The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Academy of Music put the city on the global music map. Philadelphia also has more public art, including murals—yes, graffiti artists even have an outlet—than any other city.
Speaking of food, the ubiquitous Philly cheese steak ranks as a particular pop-cuisine phenomenon. For higher-end choices, there are the Genji Japanese Restaurant and the Fuji Mountain Japanese Restaurant. The Savannah Soul Food Bar offers progressive soul food with all of the comforts of home. Since the 1980s, the Rose Tattoo Café has offered fine dining with menus that change at the chef’s whim in a variety of dining settings you can choose to suit your whim.
In the center of the city, you can visit City Hall, One Liberty Place, Penn’s Landing, Old City, Society Hill, among other sections of town. Come to sightsee, shop, and see the many sports teams, including the Eagles, the Flyers, the Phillies, the 76ers, and so on.
