  • Dinosaur Composition, New York - This was taken in the Theodore Roosevelt Rotunda of American Museum of Natural History. It is the largest freestanding mount of a dinosaur in the world. (I love crazy superlatives)

    Mexico Textures 09, Oaxaca de Juarez, Mexico - I found these posters in a small sunny corner in the Mercado Abastos. This photo is not a composite of multiple images or modified in any way. The texture is created via multiple layers of posters being ripped in various shapes and sizes. On top of that, they are glued onto corrugated aluminum siding which you can see sticking through in a few places. Delicious!

    Mineral Pool Water Color, Oaxaca, Mexico - At the top of a huge mineral waterfall lies a man-made pool that glowed green and yellow with the various metals and chemicals that naturally flows from a fresh spring in the mountains of southern Oaxaca. The transition of color is completely natural. The green color is created by the combination of the blue sky and the yellow water.

    Cementerio Viejo Xoxo 06, Oaxaca, Mexico - At around 3am, after most of the tourists and families had left the old cemetery for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), this image was captured in the interior of an old church that was left un-repaired for years. There was no roof and only the basic perimeter survived. The dirt floors were dug up and replaced with graves.

She was an amazing artist and her attention to every last detail is evident throughout the museum that is now her former residence. The house is aptly named

    Moby Dick 1, Seaside Heights, New Jersey - This is one of my all-time favorites images to date. It is long-exposure shot of a boardwalk ride called 'Moby Dick'. The swirly colors are the ride moving around doing a vertical circular motion. As soon as I saw the image, I knew I got it.

    The Boy And The Birds In The Plaza De Mayo 1, Buen - This poor little boy was dropped in the middle of these birds by his parents. While they seemed very amused, I could clearly tell that the boy was less than thrilled. After crying for a couple of minutes, his parents got a clue and retrieved him.

    Flash Gordon Texture, Ticul, Mexico - Passing through one of the pueblitos, this advertisement made me stop. Sometimes it seems as though the saturation of colors is more intense in México. The houses, buildings, and graphic design are all bold with rich colors. I am still not sure why it has a picture of Spiderman while the text says Flash Gordon, but maybe that was the only graphic they could find.

Artist Bio

Patrick Esmonde has been a photographer all his life, but only in the last 15 years has he had a camera to do anything about it.  A self-described "opportunistic photographer", Patrick does not have any limits on his work or what he shoots.  He comes, he sees, he captures.  Some trends through his work, however, are abstract compositions of nature and architecture, candid portraits ("if they pose, I don't take it"), and overlooked details of our everyday world.  Although he was trained using all manual equipment, Patrick is now shooting all digital and doesn't plan on going back.  "I don't cling to tradition, but rather to function", he says.  Part of the tradition that he still enjoys is printing on traditional photographic paper, a medium that he still feels is the best way to view his images.
