Benjamin Oaks is a multimedia artist and beat driven composer. Benjamin Oaks tends to write compositions starting with the rhythm. He'll load his MPC with a good beat and add a riff from the guitar or synth and take it from there. "I tend to create with ideas. Much like a painter or designer would create with a palette. It could be the mood i'm in that day, an idea i've had or thrown around, sometimes even a phrase. Lately I've been interested in the power of words. Single, solitary words can be so powerful. That's why I tend to name songs my just one word. Alot of the time I'll load the beat and maybe a bassline or the basic melody into my computer and when i go to save those two tracks, I'll name the composition. From there I'll mess around with the hook for a while, really concentrating on the word by which I named the song. From there it'll all come together. I write on the fly. iIrecord a song almost every day. Definately one every week. And it's just about the same time for my solo stuff. Songs with my collaborators, Triple Threat Collective, ALLisONE, etc., tend to be fairly the same, except we take turns adding layers, or someone comes in with a hook or even a whole complete song, which is rare! but I'm always beatboxing to myself, thinking about rhythm. I'm not like others, I guess, in that way. I don't like sit down and play the guitar and write songs. I love to play and I do remember riffs and have quite a huge collection. I just save them for the right time... the right rhythm... the right word to bring them to life."
