Ride the Ducks Philadelphia: It's "Quackerific"

Feb 2, 2010

When it comes to guided tours in Philadelphia, Ride the Ducks takes the award for the most creative. An amphibious vehicle takes passengers around the city streets of Philly, showcasing historical sites like Independence Hall and Benjamin Franklin's grave.

The amphibious vehicles, which are specifically built for the tour, are referred to as "ducks" because of their ability to move directly from the land to the water. Ride the Ducks claims that it is the best tour in Philadelphia because their vehicles can "go where no others can": the streets of Philly into the cool Delaware River.

Passengers are given a duck-bill-shaped whistle to blow during the course of the tour, so kids love the ducks as much as adults. Each tour lasts approximately one hour.

Tickets can be purchased in advance by visiting the Ride the Ducks Philadelphia website (see section to the right) or by visiting the boarding location at Market and South Sixth Streets. Tickets can also be purchased by calling (877) 887-8225. Ticket prices are $27 for adults, $25 for senior citizens, $23 for students (aged 13-17), and $17 for children (aged three to 12). Kids aged 2 and under ride free. Special discounted rates are available for groups of 20 or more.

Other sites featured by the Ride the Ducks tour include the Liberty Bell, Philadelphia Mint, Betsy Ross' House, the Vietnam War Memorial, Society Hill and dozens of other interesting and educational places.

Ride the Ducks opens seasonally on March 6. For more information on this unique tour, call (215) 351-9989.
